Winter Fun

Wow. Its already the middle of February and Les and I are recovering from a long cold spell here in Maine where for a good month the temperature barely reached 25 degrees during the day. We have held up pretty well and have even learned to embrace the cold and still do the things we love. Super Bowl Sunday, we headed out to the White Mountains hoping to catch a little solitude and to get our monthly quota of fresh mountain air. there was about 5 inches of hard packed snow on the ground but the story of the day was how cold and windy it was. We estimated temperatures were a blistery 10 degrees with a 30-40 mile an hour wind. Luckily, proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance and we were appropriately dressed for whatever mother nature threw at us. There were some great views of the southern mountains including Mt. Chocorua. It was a great day, and we even had time to have our own super bowl party complete with appetizers and junk food. More recently, we have been trying our hand at cross country skiing and took a day trip over to Camp for a little sledding and hiking around. It was another beautiful Maine day with a mix of sunshine, stunning clouds, and snow showers. We met David and were determined to sled from HQ down to Long Lake. Unfortunately, the 2 feet of snow on the ground made it a little difficult, but we had a great time. We finished up the day with a hot chocolate and a cheese pizza from the Market Basket.
